A Matryoshka-like Geometry Planar Antenna

This paper introduces a matryoshka-like geometry planar antenna, MTK-LA. The matryoshka-like geometry was described, including initial design equations. To verify the expected characteristics, a prototype operating at 199 MHz was designed, fabricated and characterized, verifying a good agreement between numerical and measured results. One of the most interesting features observed was the reduced dimensions, achieving an overall dimension of 0.033λ<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0</inf> ×0.033λ<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">0</inf>. Despite the MTK-LA be especially attractive for low frequency application, its dimensions can be adjusted and applications at high frequencies are also possible.
