Compact super UWB 5G Petalled Flower Like Patch Antenna for Body Centric application

In this work, we propose a novel compact, flexible, petal-shaped microstrip patch antenna for 5G body-centric applications, featuring a super wide bandwidth of 40.6 GHz and a high gain of 5.43 dBi. The wide matching impedance is achieved through a design incorporating a five-petalled patch, partial ground, and a matching line connected to the main feed line, all based on the semi-flexible Rogers RT/Duroid 5880 substrate known for its low losses at high frequencies (Ɛr = 2.2, h = 0.508 mm, tan δ = 0.004). The antenna was tested on flat and curved human phantoms (representing skin, fat, and muscle) to ensure suitability for wearable applications. It demonstrated low specific absorption rate (SAR) values at various resonance frequencies. Despite its small size of 12 mm × 10 mm, the antenna achieves an S11 of less than -11.15 dB across a frequency range of 6.84 to 47.44 GHz, maintains stable radiation patterns, and exhibits an average stable group delay of 0.15 ns. Simulations were done using CST.
