Design of Bias Network with Suspended Microstrip Line
In this paper, we design a bias network suitable for X-band power modules using a suspended microstrip line (SML) structure. Traditionally, microstrip lines (MSL) have been used to design bias networks. However, commercial structures can be limited in current flow when used in power amplifiers due to the thin linewidth of the lines that implement high impedance. Therefore, in this paper, a bias network designed using SML structure suitable for high power amplifiers is compared with a bias network designed using MSL structure. The bias network designed with the SML structure has a wider linewidth than the bias network designed with the MSL structure at the same impedance, but the obtained electrical characteristics are very similar.
