An Accurate Fault Location Method for Power Distribution System with Integration of Inverter Based Resources

Existing fault location methods in electrical distribution network fails when it comes to mesh distribution network with integrated renewable energy sources. The extensive lateral branches and load points makes it more difficult to identify the exact location of the fault. This paper proposes a fault location solution based on fault passage indicator with minimal measurements to accurately identify the fault location in meshed distribution network with integrated renewable energy. The core idea is to develop a standardized user interface where users can upload distribution network details and fault data. The interface will then compute and display the exact fault location within the system and the same will be visualized on a mapping interface with QGIS (Quantum Geographic Information System)
