Assessing the Economic Advantages of Integrating Bi-Directional EVSE into HEMS

This paper assesses the economic advantage of bidirectional EVSE integration in Home Energy management System(HEMS) for energy import and export. A framework is proposed for this integration and this framework was tested on a typical home configuration. A comparative study for NEM 3.0 and dynamic tariffs was done by Incrementally adding Photovoltaic (PV) systems, Battery system, a uni-directional EVSE and a bi-directional EVSE into HEMS. This study utilizes publicly available data for these tariffs. This study presents positive results regarding economic advantages and the possibility of extending the framework to create optimized configurations for each homeowner based on their energy needs to maximize benefits.
