Demand Response Platform with IoT and NILM for Household Energy Management

Effective and proactive energy management is crucial in the modern economy. Demand Response (DR) serves as a key strategy for optimizing electricity supply per consumer needs. This paper presents an Internet of Things-based system designed to manage DR through the scheduling of household appliances. By leveraging Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) techniques, the system is capable of identifying and controlling individual electrical loads. Users can input their preferences via a local host interface, enabling the system to control appliance schedules and reduce overall power consumption. The methodology for real-time monitoring and calculation of energy usage is discussed, facilitating accurate predictions of electricity costs based on regional tariffs. The present investigative approach not only enhances energy efficiency but also offers consumers greater control over electricity billing. The paper aims to demonstrate the practical application of IoT and NILM in creating smarter, more responsive energy management solutions.
