Lactation as Liberation
Pregnancy and postpartum care increasingly overlap with intensivist care, with ICU admission rates ranging from 0.4% to 2.8% of deliveries globally since 2010.1,2 Mirroring this rise in pregnant and postpartum ICU admissions is the rising public awareness in the United States of maternal morbidity and mortality. Seeing these trends, the specialties of both intensive care medicine and obstetrics are offering new clinical guidance, educational resources, and collaborations aimed at reducing preventable maternal death and optimizing postpartum care.
