Mechanical behavior of AlxCoCrFeNi high-entropy-alloy rods in a wide temperature range

This study investigates the microstructures and mechanical properties of 6-mm-diameter Al x CoCrFeNi (x = 0.1, 0.3) rods across a temperature range from - 50 °C to 1000 °C. Both alloys exhibit a simple face-centered-cubic (FCC) structure with fine grains averaging 4–5 μm in size and display (001) and (111) fiber textures. Tensile tests conducted at low, room, and high temperatures reveal that tensile strength increases and elongation decreases as the temperature decreases. Specifically, the Al 0.3 CoCrFeNi alloy achieved a tensile strength of 976 MPa and an elongation of 15.2 % at - 50 °C, and maintained a tensile strength of 736 MPa at 600 °C. However, when the temperature exceeded 800 °C, the tensile strength decreased sharply due to softening. These findings provide valuable insights into the temperature-dependent mechanical behavior of Al x CoCrFeNi high-entropy-alloy rods, highlighting their potential for applications requiring high strength across a wide temperature range.
