Seismic Design of Double Y-Type Eccentric-Braced Structure Based on Equivalent Energy Design Procedure (EEDP)
The Y-type eccentric braced steel frame functions as an efficient lateral movement-resistant structural system, integrating vertical energy-dissipating members and bracing. It effectively combines the benefits of a conventional frame structure and central bracing, mitigating their individual drawbacks. Addressing the deficiencies of past seismic designs and leveraging the superior seismic performance of Y-type eccentric braced steel frames, a new approach, the Equivalent Energy Design Procedure (EEDP). The approach utilizes the equivalent energy method for the seismic design of Y-type eccentric braced steel frames, along with adjustments to energy parameters for improved accuracy. Subsequently, seismic design is conducted for various design examples, subjected to 11 different intensity seismic waves, followed by a thorough analysis and evaluation of the structure’s seismic performance. The findings indicate that DY-EBFs, designed with the Equivalent Energy Design Method exhibit the expected performance, validating the feasibility and reliability of this approach.
