La maqbara del Paraje de la Horca en Borja, Zaragoza
In 2021, an archaeological excavation was conducted at the Paraje de la Horca site in Borja, province of Zaragoza. During the excavation work, up to fifteen medieval Islamic burials could be identified, supposedly chronologically datable between the 8th and 12th centuries, located on a previous site from the Late Antique period. This necropolis constitutes a new example of a maqbara, which, when put in common with others in the surrounding area, can shed light on the evolution of the Andalusian funerary ritual in the middle Ebro valley.
