HABILIDADE DO ENFERMEIRO NO MANUSEIO EM VENTILAÇÃO MECÂNICA EM UNIDADE DE TERAPIA INTENSIVA
This article aims to analyze the essential skills that nurses need to develop to manage mechanical ventilation in intensive care units (ICU). Mechanical ventilation is a critical intervention for patients with respiratory failure, posing a significant challenge for healthcare professionals, especially nurses, who play a vital role in this process. The methodology used in this study is bibliographic and discursive in nature, encompassing a comprehensive review of the medical and nursing literature available to identify key competencies, best practices, and gaps in practical and theoretical knowledge. The study reviews current guidelines, case studies, clinical reports, and expert opinions in the field to provide a holistic view on the topic. The competencies identified include the ability to monitor respiratory parameters, adjust ventilator settings, and interpret clinical data to make informed decisions. The challenges faced are also discussed, such as the rapid technological evolution of equipment and the need for continuous updating of professionals' knowledge. The results indicate that continuing education and specific training are crucial not only to improve the clinical outcomes of patients, but also to minimize complications associated with inappropriate use of ventilators. In addition, the importance of institutional policies that encourage and facilitate the continuous education and professional development of nurses in the ICU is highlighted. This article adds to the existing literature by emphasizing the need for a multidisciplinary approach to nurse training and the implementation of evidence-based practices.
