Localization in VLC LoS System Using RSS and PSO

The optical wireless positioning system based on Visible Light Communication (VLC) employ white light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as transmitter and optical detectors as receiver. The position of detectors may not be pre-determined for which localization in VLC system has received a great interest for indoor optical wireless communication applications. The localization is carried out using the Received Signal Strength (RSS) based algorithm for distance estimation and particle swarm optimization (PSO) is employed for position estimation of the targeted receivers. In this paper, an indoor VLC system using line of sight (LoS) propagation model using direct detection is designed. The paper focuses on estimating the receiver's position using single transmitter and further increasing the number of transmitters to two. Additionally, the system accuracy has been determined by calculating the mean square error (MSE).
