Sensory Detector of Hazardous Gases in Poultry Farms

“The poultry industry holds a significant position in global agriculture, contributing substantially to economic growth and development. However, the generation of harmful gases from bird litter poses major challenges in the poultry industry. In birds, nitrogen is excreted as 80% uric acid, 10% ammonia, and 5% urea. Bacteria and enzymes convert uric acid and urea into ammonia, while H<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>S and CO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> are produced from the decomposition of organic matter. Ammonia reacts with moisture to form corrosive ammonium, and all these gases are released into the air, affecting both chickens and their keepers. Maintaining safe indoor air quality is crucial, with ammonia concentrations needing to be below 25 ppm, and other gas levels also requiring stringent control. Our project aims to detect and minimize the generation of these gases by implementing an automated sensor model, ensuring optimal air quality in poultry houses.”
