Optimizing the Design and Performance of Standalonehybrid Renewable Energy for an Academic Building
The research focuses on developing an optimal standalone Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES) for an academic building to efficiently fulfill its energy demands. Various configurations were assessed using criteria like Net Present Cost (NPC), operating cost, and Cost of Energy (COE) to determine the most economically viable and environmentally sustainable solution. Configurations evaluated include PV-DG-Li-ion battery, PV-WT-DG-Li-ion battery, PV-Li-ion battery, WT-DG-Li-ion battery, and a sole DG system. HOMER PRO software was utilized to optimize the design of these hybrid energy systems. The findings indicate that the PV-WT-DG-Li-ion battery configuration emits approximately 30,632 kg/year of CO2, significantly less than the conventional DG systemwhich emits 763,082 kg/year. Consequently, the study concludes that the PV-WT-DG-Li-ion battery configuration represents the most environmentally friendly and economically feasible solution among the considered options.
