Non-Foster Circuit Based Matching for Dual-Band Electrically Small Antennas in Beyond 5G Applications

This paper presents the design and analysis of an antenna integrated with a non-foster circuit (NFC) for sub-6 GHz beyond 5G applications. The proposed active impedance matching technique employed to create a lower the resonance band in an antenna making an additional band simultaneously with the actual resonance of antenna. This effectively helps realizing an electrically small antenna (ESA). ESAs generally have small resistance and large reactance at its input, resulting poor radiation performance. This limits its practical applications even advantage of smaller antenna size. In this work, a negative capacitance converter based NFC is designed at the input stage of a rectangular patch antenna. The integration of NFC with antenna operating at 800 MHz, creates a lower resonance at 400 MHz due to reactance cancellation, and enhanced impedance-matched bandwidth.
