Optimization design of high-voltage circuit breaker cam based on equivalent dynamic model

The cam is an integral component of circuit breaker actuation mechanisms, directly influencing the breaker's dynamic characteristics. Current cam designs largely rely on empirical methods, often failing to meet the specific design requirements of the circuit breaker itself, resulting in poor closing performance. To address this issue, this study first establishes an equivalent dynamic model based on moving contacts, effectively simplifying the closing motion of the circuit breaker. Building upon this equivalent dynamic model, an iterative instantaneous gear ratio method is proposed to design the cam for achieving target stroke and velocity profiles. Using the results from this method, an optimization model for closing action based on genetic algorithms is developed, resolving issues of excessive closing operation energy and optimizing the breaker's dynamic characteristics. Validation through simulations based on the developed models shows that the designed cam ensures the circuit breaker's closing time and velocity remain within specified design ranges, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed approach.
