Development of low temperature electronics for LAr-TPC

Abstract Recently, the multi-kton Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (LAr-TPC) has been developed to conduct neutrino oscillation and nucleon decay search experiments. Accordingly, the necessity of high functional electronics for the multi-kton LAr-TPC has been increasing. The electronics used in LAr-TPC is needed to operate stably at cryogenic temperature (89 K). Thus, we have been developing analog front-end electronics for LAr-TPC termed as LTARS, and making improvements. The latest version of this electronics in the LTARS series, LTAR16A, is fabricated in a TSMC 180 nm process. The ASIC includes on board the following features: A/D converters, internal and external trigger modes and two data processing modes. We tested the LTARS16A and confirmed that the performance satisfies our requirements for both at room and cryogenic temperatures. Furthermore, we successfully observed the output signal for α -rays with the LTARS16A mounted on a small-sized prototype TPC.
