Adsorption of Chitosan on PLGA Polymeric Nanoparticles
In the present work, the adsorption of chitosan on PLGA-CLTNPs was studied with the aim of promoting the mucoadhesive properties of these biodegradable nanoparticles in vaginal tissue. The nanoparticles were prepared with the diffusion emulsification technique. The nanoparticles obtained were resuspended in deionized water, to suspend the nanoparticles in different amounts of chitosan. The Z potential and particle size distribution were determined. The amount of desorbed chitosan was determined through a reaction with the ninhydrin reagent. A good correlation (r2 >0.94) was obtained with the Freundlich, Halsey, Henderson and Smith models; these results indicate that the adsorption of chitosan is through the formation of multilayers. The maximum amount of chitosan adsorbed on PLGA-CLT-NPs was achieved with the addition of 28 mg of chitosan (CTS).
