A Range Viewed in Face and Peaks Viewed From the Side: A Comparative Study of Yan Family Instructions and American Family Instructions
The Yan’s Family Rule, created during the Northern and Southern Dynasties, has pioneering significance in ancient Chinese family teachings. In the more than 1400-year history of China, the Yan’s Family Rule has been widely disseminated and accepted in ancient and modern times. Many scholars have cited famous quotes from the book Yan’s Family Rule in their works. In American Family Instructions and American Letters, more than 100 influential figures in American politics and business are collected, and representative letters are written at different times. This article selects representative family teachings from both the East and the West, combines their historical status and contemporary value, and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of Yan’s Family Rule from an external perspective. A comprehensive comparison and research are conducted in moral education, ambition education, thrift education, and setback education.
