WOMEN AND MEDIA: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF WOMEN'S IMAGES IN REPORTING ON OUT-OF-WEDLOCK PREGNANCIES BETWEEN CONVENTIONAL MEDIA AND DIGITAL MEDIA

Image of Women, Conventional Media and Digital Media, Pregnancy Out of Wedlock. The aim of this research is to analyze the depiction of women in the news about pregnancy out of wedlock by conducting a comparative study of conventional media and digital media in Indonesia. This research uses content analysis research methods to assess the depiction of women in news articles, editorials, and television programs in traditional media, and in blogs, online news sites, and social media in digital media. This research uses research objects using 2 conventional news from CNN Indonesia and TV One, and 2 news from Digital Media, namely from detik.com and Beritajatim.com. Research shows that although traditional media tends to portray women who become pregnant out of wedlock negatively, and often reinforce social stigma, digital media provides more diverse coverage and offers more inclusive and empathetic perspectives. These differences in representation reflect the media's dynamism in shaping public opinion and highlighting the role of digital media, which in its characteristics is more democratic and more progressive regarding social issues. It is hoped that this research will provide insight to academics, activists and policy makers about how media can be used as a tool to carry out social change that is more inclusive and gender equal.
