Reading Race with Oprah: The 2.0 Years
ABSTRACT This article takes up the 2.0 moment of Oprah’s Book Club (OBC), focusing specifically on its management of race across several Black-authored titles published in and around the Trump presidency and the Black Lives Matters movement. Consisting of six short component pieces, the authors argue that when the OBC took on race it did so in strategic ways that at times seemed overdetermined by the club’s audience/readership.
