Coordination Strategy for AC-DC Hybrid Transmission Systems Considering the Regulation Capability of Grid-Forming Wind Power
With the continuous development of energy systems, the emergence of grid-forming wind power enables wind turbines to actively support the grid rather than passively adapt to it. First, a model of a hybrid AC/DC transmission network with grid-forming wind energy integration has been developed. Second, analysis is done on how AC failures affect the AC-DC hybrid transfer system's DC inverter side. Considering the characteristics of DC power transmission, a method is introduced to mitigate continuous commutation failures by regulating the DC current command value on the inverter end. Furthermore, the adaptive power regulation capability of grid-forming wind power and the proactive acceleration power reduction control of grid-following wind turbines are utilized to reduce the overload risk in the AC transmission system. This power coordination control method is validated through simulations using a hybrid AC-DC transmission system model integrated with grid-forming wind power. The results demonstrate that this approach effectively mitigates continuous commutation failures caused by AC faults on the DC inverter end and reduces the overload risk in the AC transmission system.
