Constrained Adaptive Simultaneous Control of Oxygen Excess Ratio and Cathode Pressure for PEMFC Air Supply System

This paper proposes a constrained adaptive control strategy for the proton exchange membrane fuel cell air supply system, focusing on the simultaneous control of the oxygen excess ratio and cathode pressure. Given the complex dynamics of systems that incorporate components like closed-loop compressors and controllable exhaust valves, traditional control methods struggle to adequately address system uncertainties and parameter variations. To overcome these challenges, we employ a backstepping control method that leverages an adaptive law to estimate unknown constant parameters effectively. This allows for handling the nonlinear and multiple-input multiple-output characteristics inherent in these systems. We have further enhanced our control strategy by integrating a constrained control design to meet the practical operational requirements of the compressors. Numerical experiments underscore the superiority of our adaptive backstepping control method over traditional PID controls, demonstrating significant improvements in terms of accuracy, stability, and response dynamics.
