Design of an Integrated Detection and Monitoring System for Confined Space Operations
Confined spaces refer to enclosed or semi-enclosed areas where poisonous, harmful, or combustible gases may accumulate due to poor ventilation. Working in such spaces can easily lead to personal injuries, including oxygen deficiency, asphyxiation, and poisoning. Nuclear power enterprises are characterized by dense confined space equipment, frequent confined space operations, and significant operational risks. To address these issues and ensure operator safety in confined spaces, this paper designs an integrated detection and monitoring system that integrates both environmental and operator monitoring sensors. Specifically, real-time monitoring of personnel is accomplished using multi-channel audio and video transmission technology. Additionally, a gas monitoring and wireless relay system using industrial gas detection sensors is designed to assess the safety of the environment. A wearable personnel status monitoring sub-system is also adopted to ensure operator safety by monitoring their physiological indicators. Finally, a behavior recognition algorithm is designed to achieve real-time detection of operator behavior to assist supervisors in assessing the safety conditions of operators. Experimental analyses of network performance, program functionality, and algorithm effectiveness are conducted to verify the feasibility of the proposed system.
