CONNECTED CARTS: Redefining Retail with IoT- Powered Shopping Encounters

The concept to develop an RFID-based smart trolley system is that it integrates sensors with the trolley to completely transform supermarket shopping. Connected Carts improves the retail environment by embedding the Internet of Things (IoT) technology into the regular trolleys which allows the customers to shop better and quicker. With the IoT embedded system, we can monitor or control anything from a remote location using internet [8]. This innovative solution uses sensor data, connectivity, and intelligent algorithms to improve navigation, optimise the checkout procedures, and deliver targeted recommendations. This system automatically recognizes and invoices products using RFID sensors, eliminating the need for checkout lines. It also supports real-time inventory management and route optimization for both customers and employees. Personalised marketing and product recommendations can be made based on dietary needs and personal preferences. A mobile app is integrated with the trolley for customers to track their purchases every time. Customers can use the mobile app to book trolleys in advance and enjoy many more exciting features. Green purchases mean soon-to-expire products will be sold on discounts so that inventory management is at its best. The technology captures the anonymous data on product preferences, shopping habits, and trolley movement to provide insights for product arrangement and store improvements.
