RELAÇÃO ENTRE O ESTADIAMENTO E A TAXA DE SOBREVIDA DOS PACIENTES COM CÂNCER GÁSTRICO NO HOSPITAL HINJA EM VOLTA REDONDA /RJ

Gastric cancer is the fourth most common type and the second leading cause of cancer-related death, making it a global health problem. This carcinoma does not present specific symptoms, resulting in a challenging prognosis, especially in advanced stages, with a five-year survival rate of only 20%. In contrast, early detection can elevate this rate to over 90%. Tumors of the digestive system are often incurable in disseminated stages, reinforcing the importance of early screening. The etiology of gastric cancer remains uncertain, but factors such as infection with Helicobacter pylori and dietary habits have been implicated. Staging, fundamental for appropriate management, is determined by imaging and histopathological techniques, with the TNM classification being the most widely used. This classification considers the tumor's location, stage, and the number of affected lymph nodes. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis between staging and survival rates in patients hospitalized with gastric cancer at Hospital Hinja. Twenty-eight medical records of patients diagnosed with gastric adenocarcinoma from 2019 to 2024 were analyzed. The results showed a predominance of advanced stages, with 12 patients in stage IV. The analysis suggests that early diagnosis is correlated with better outcomes, underscoring the need for a multidisciplinary approach to treatment.
