Adaptive Architecture of Baseboard Management Controller Based on Different Projects
In this study, a novel architecture of baseboard management controller (BMC) based on intelligent platform management interface (IPMI) is discussed for the questions that the code of BMC needs to be modified, adjusted, adapted, and complied over and over again when the different demands from the different projects and platforms need to be developed. In the novel architecture, the abilities of BMC are modularized and integrated by the optimizations of the software, and the different projects are distinguished by the design of the hardware. Then, the driver adaptation layer is built by the PRJ file. According to the driver adaptation layer, the functions can be selected in the PRJ file and the exclusive BMC image that meets the customized demands can be compiled and booted up according to the PRJ file, the code base, the Board ID, the Customer ID, and the SKU ID. Based on the novel architecture, the implementation plan and practical case are also introduced to prove the feasibility. In summary, the novel architecture can improve code development efficiency, code reusing, and code maintainability, and accommodate many exclusive images for different projects only by a set of codes.
