Modeling and Simulation of ROHC Protocol Based on OPNET
Followed by the continuous development of wireless communications and the integration of communication networks and mobile IP technology, communication service types are dramatically enriched. Simultaneously, the rapidly growing communication data leads to gradual tension concerning the limited bandwidth resources. On the other hand, the existing IP packet header is too large, which seriously wastes the wireless bandwidth resources and further makes the tense wireless bandwidth being in the cart. So the IETF (Internet engineering task force) propose ROHC (robustness header compression) protocol to improve bandwidth utilization. In the former research, there are not models, simulations, and discussions between the network models with and without ROHC protocol from a professional software perspective. In this paper, based on the ROHC protocol research, OPNET software is utilized to model and simulate the ROHC protocol. Then the simulation results of the network model with and without ROHC protocol in the matters of network utilization, network throughput, and queue delay are demonstrated in the experiments part. The conclusions are that, the network utilization has been improved by 30% at least, the network throughput has been improved by over 70%, and the queue delay has been reduced up to over 80%, respectively, which verify the advancement and superiority of ROHc protocol on wireless network communications.
