Comparative Performance Analysis of Slotted and Slotless Dual-Stator and Single-Rotor Axial-Flux Permanent Magnet Motor for Integrated Motor-Compressor System
Axial-flux permanent magnet (AFPM) machines are well suited for a wide range of applications. Their compatibility and potential for integrated motor-compressor systems are explored in this paper. Three-phase dual-stator and single-rotor AFPM motors with Slotted and Slotless stator topologies with two different slot/pole configurations are studied in this paper. 18-slot/12-pole and 27-slot/24-pole configurations with 10 kW rated power and 12,000 rpm rated speed are compared for different performance aspects. The enclosure of the motor is held constant with several other parameters to obtain a fair comparison. Cost analysis is performed to address the cost-effectiveness of the AFPM machines. A prototype is constructed of a 27-slot/24-pole configuration of a Slotless AFPM motor for experimental validation.
