Optimization Method of Excitation System Parameters of Synchronous Condenser for Coordinated Voltage and Damping Support
Synchronous condensers can not only provide dynamic reactive power support but also improve the damping of power systems. This paper proposes a method to optimize the parameters of the excitation system of synchronous condenser for coordinated voltage and damping support. First, an objective function that considers both voltage and damping performance is established by combining the effective reactive current gain and the minimum damping ratio of electromechanical oscillations. Then, the optimization direction of the excitation system parameters of the synchronous condenser is determined based on parameter trajectory sensitivity and parameter perturbation damping increment. Additionally, to further improve the damping effect, the excitation system parameters of the generators strongly related to minimum damping ratio are also treated as optimization targets. Finally, a parameter iterative solution method is constructed using Power System Analysis Software Package (PSASP) combined with an improved Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm. The simulation results validate the effectiveness and rationality of the proposed method.
