The Influence of Structure on the Stability of Chelates of Some Substituted 8-Hydroxyquinolines and Analogous Reagents [Thesis]

In recent years an increasing number of investigators have centered their interest on the theoretical study of metal chelate compounds. There are several major reasons for this. The widespread use of chelating reagents in analytical chemistry has prompted investigations which have as their ultimate goal the determination of those factors which influence the specificity and selectivity of chelating reagents. Secondly, the knowledge that chelates play an important role in biological processes has stimulated an interest in the properties of these complex compounds. Finally, chelates have been investigated in order to expand the knowledge of theoretical chemistry.

Abstract

In recent years an increasing number of investigators have centered their interest on the theoretical study of metal chelate compounds. There are several major reasons for this. The widespread use of chelating reagents in analytical chemistry has prompted investigations which have as their ultimate goal the determination of those factors which influence the specificity and selectivity of chelating reagents. Secondly, the knowledge that chelates play an important role in biological processes has stimulated an interest in the properties of these complex compounds. Finally, chelates have been investigated in order to expand the knowledge of theoretical chemistry.
