Research on the effects of nanosecond-picosecond hybrid laser on the surface physicochemical properties of CFRP

Advances in technology have significantly expanded the use of carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP) due to their exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. However, conventional mechanical processing methods often lead to abrasive embedding and fiber damage, falling short of modern industrial demands for high-precision surface treatments. In this study, we propose a novel nanosecond-picosecond hybrid laser technique to modify the surface properties of CFRP by adjusting the power ratio of the two lasers. Surface morphology, roughness, and wettability of CFRP were systematically characterized using laser confocal microscopy and contact angle measurements. Results demonstrate that the hybrid laser treatment significantly increases surface roughness and enhances surface free energy by 35.9% compared to untreated surfaces. This approach offers an efficient and environmentally friendly method for surface modification, potentially advancing the performance of CFRP in industrial applications.
