X-ray endoscopic classification of aspiration syndrome

Background. A review of more than 200 literature sources over the past half century has shown that there is currently no radiological classification of aspiration syndrome. Moreover, there is no single generally accepted clinical and diagnostic classification of aspiration syndrome. Objective. The aim of our study was to develop a classification of aspiration syndrome. Material and methods. The material for achieving this goal was the results of examination and treatment of 53 patients hospitalized in the St. Petersburg City Hospital of the Holy Martyr Elizabeth with a diagnosis of «Aspiration Syndrome» from 2020 to 2021. Conclusion. A classification of aspiration syndrome is proposed that takes into account all the essential aspects of aspiration syndrome and allows for detailing the degrees of damage to the respiratory organs depending on the radiological and endoscopic picture, as well as the severity of the aspiration syndrome in general.
