Environmental Sociology encompasses two major aspects namely, Environment andSociology.Environment refers to the physical surroundings of a human.Sociology refers to the study of people. Thus, environmental sociology refers to the ways how the behaviour of humans affects the environment.Currently, the environment requires a lot of change. On that note, urbanisation has led to lots of impact in the Chennai's environment. The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (a joint venture between the government of India and the government of Tamil Nadu) has aimed to reduce vehicular pollution in Chennai at the grassroots level. The study of environmental sociology entails acknowledging that the physical environment and the other way around may impact human cultures and behaviour. Therefore, ecological sociologists reject the conventional sociological tenet that social facts can only be understood concerning other social realities.Indeed, what distinguishes environmental sociology as a distinct field of study is its acknowledgment of "environmental" factors as important for sociological examination. Thus, this research is based on two different aspects of people namely, the perception of people towards the metro as a mode of transport based on the Ezhisaivani D, Rajeev K.
