Slope stability analysis: Case StudyatChwit City, Lebanon
Abstract. Cracking problems and ground movement in slope systems are encountered in both slopes of recent construction and those that have been in use for many years. Instability in slopes occurs when stresses exceed the slope material's shear strength. Excessive overburden pressure due to external loads, or increased pore water, might cause the stress to be excessive. Other factors that decrease soil strength for slope instability are poor soil condition, weathering, slope geometry, soil stratification, and discontinuities in the rock body. This study attempts to understand the slope's stability condition at Chwit city in Lebanon throughout an extensive geotechnical investigation. Besides, different corrective and remedial measures for the stabilization of the slope along the failed portion were discussed and evaluated accordingly in terms of safety Factor.
