A IMPORTÂNCIA DA ODONTOLOGIA NOS ASPECTOS PSICOSSOCIAIS: PRÓTESES TRANSFORMAM VIDAS

Many studies do not detail the effects of orthodontic treatment on self-esteem, nor explain the role of orthodontic treatment. However, it is known that there is an association between self-esteem and the subjective need for orthodontic treatment. Therefore, understanding the interaction of these psychosocial measures is crucial to developing an effective orthodontic treatment. This study, therefore, aims to discuss, through a descriptive study using data from the National Health Survey (tooth loss associated with age, sex, race or color and level of education), as well as a literature review. Considerations were made about Dental Prostheses and their applicability, taking into account edentulism, psychosocial and aesthetic factors, being found in all 231 articles. It is concluded with data from the National Health Survey - PNS 2019 that the need and use of dental prosthesis are associated with sociodemographic factors, and that there is a need for policies and actions that minimize inequalities in oral health, ensuring access to subgroups vulnerable populations according to their health needs.
