High‐Valence Metals Accelerate the Reaction Kinetics for Boosting Water Oxidation (Small 6/2025)
Water Oxidation In article number 2403992, Hui Pan and co-workers presented a model catalyst, CeO2-NiFeOxHy, to achieve the modulation of valence state of active site (Ni2+→Ni3+→Ni4+) for improved oxygen evolution reaction (OER). They found that the CeO2-NiFeOxHy promotes the in-situ reconstruction of Ni-O to the NiOOH (Ni3+) active layer. The incorporation of Fe3+ accelerates the formation of Ni4+ in the OER process because Fe3+ has the similar behavior to the Lewis acid.
