Integrated Sensing and Communication Based Deformation Monitoring in Practical 5G Network
Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is attracting significant attention and is the key to meeting future mobile communication requirements. The feasibility of ISAC has been verified in use cases such as multi-target detection, environmental reconstruction, and personnel breathing. To expand the use cases, this paper explores the capbility of deformation monitoring based on ISAC. First, derive a deformation model and introduce the hardware prototype. We use 5G commercial base stations deployed widely to transmit configured monitoring signals. The experiments are conducted in typical outdoor environments with large objects around. A corner reflector moves by a specific distance that simulates the target deformation. Second, determine the positions of the target and reference point in the ranging-angle (RA) map and calculate the phase change of the target in real time. Third, estimate the deformation size based on the phase change of the target echo signal. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper can achieve millimeter-level deformation monitoring accuracy, which can be compared to the performance of traditional methods.
