Harmonics Influence Research on the Transient Characteristics of High Voltage Circuit Breaker Short-Line Fault Recovery Voltage
The increasing content of harmonics poses a significant challenge to the reliable operation of high-voltage power systems. As a critical component in the interruption and closure of circuits, it is essential to investigate the influence of harmonics on interrupting performance of high-voltage circuit breakers. Employing monitored data from a 550kV substation, this study quantified the harmonic current content and subsequently built computation and simulation models to assess the initial rate of rise of recovery voltage and the transient recovery voltage following a short-line fault of a 550kV circuit breaker. The result showed the transient characteristics of recovery voltage under harmonic perturbation, demonstrating how varying current magnitudes, harmonic frequencies and contents affect these characteristics. The work provides theoretical insights for mitigating harmonic effects in high-voltage circuit breakers.
