Comparative analysis of energy consumption between PHEV and REEV with P1+P3 configuration

The comparison between the series-parallel plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) and series-connected REEV with P1+P3 hybrid architecture in terms of comprehensive fuel consumption and electric energy consumption under different driving conditions was made in this article. Through the research of the hybrid vehicle market and the theoretical analysis of fuel consumption models for series and parallel mode, it was found that the comprehensive fuel consumption of these two types of vehicles is not absolutely better or worse, but is closely related to the driving conditions. Therefore, a virtual model is built by Matlab/Simulink, to study the performance of fuel consumption, electric power consumption and driving range of these two types of vehicles under various driving conditions. The results show that as the proportion of high-speed segments in the driving cycle decreases, the comprehensive energy consumption of REEV gradually approaches that of PHEV, and when the ratio of low-speed segment to high-speed segment is 9:1 and 10:0, the comprehensive energy consumption of REEV is better than that of PHEV. Meanwhile, compared to PHEV, REEV doesn’t have the clutch, which also has advantages in cost reduction.

Abstract

Meanwhile, compared to PHEV, REEV doesn’t have the clutch, which also has advantages in cost reduction.
