A Low Cost Ventilator for Emergency Care

Ventilators are an absolute must in today's healthcare for patients in respiratory distress, especially those impacted by the COVID-19 epidemic. However, especially in environments with limited resources, conventional ventilators can be expensive and frequently unavailable. In order to overcome these obstacles, this project presents a low-cost ventilator system that pumps an Ambu bag precisely by using an Arduino Nano computer to operate a mechanical arm with a servo motor. The system includes features like the MAX30100 pulse oximeter sensor, which allows for breathing parameter modifications and real-time patient health status monitoring. Furthermore, environmental monitoring is made possible with a DHT11 sensor, which provides information on humidity and temperature. Hardware for the system consists of the Arduino Nano, servo motor, LCD display, buttons, LEDs, and sensors, among other necessary parts. Zero PCBs are used in the design and construction where all the components are mounted and soldered. The main outcome with this project is to create a ventilator that is accessible and affordable so that it can be used in different healthcare settings and improve patient outcomes.
