Experimental Study on Cooling Effect of Extinguishing Agents on Thermal Runaway of Large-Capacity Lithium-Ion Battery
With the widespread use of lithium-ion batteries, the number of battery accidents is also increasing. Thermal runaway of lithium-ion batteries can cause batteries to catch fire or even explode, causing huge losses to people and property. Therefore, it is very important to choose the right fire extinguishing agent for lithium batteries, which can reduce the temperature of the battery in the early stage of thermal runaway and avoid serious accidents as much as possible. In this paper, a controlled experiment was used to cool down the thermal runaway battery using different fire extinguishing agents (perfluorohexanone, heptafluoropropane and water mist), and the temperature change on the surface of the battery was recorded. The experimental results show that the cooling effect of fine water mist is the most obvious, followed by perfluorohexanone and heptafluoropropane. This experiment provides theoretical support for further research on the fire protection strategy of battery modules
