A design of high-efficiency hybrid envelope tracking power supply based on multilevel architecture

In this paper, a hybrid class envelope tracking power supply with multilevel architecture is designed, which consists of a step wave generation unit (Multi-Level Stage), a linear amplifier connected in series with it (Linear Stage), and a Buck converter (Switch Stage) connected in parallel. This design reduces losses by simultaneously reducing the current of the linear stage and the voltage across it, ultimately improving the efficiency of the ET power system. Two optimization measures, namely step wave edge smoothing and delay matching, have been proposed in this design with the objective of achieving an average output power of 39.7W and an efficiency of 83.72% for the tracking of a 2MHz sine wave. In addition, a 10MHz broadband signal with a peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of 3.9dB has been tested, and an average output power of 36.37W and an efficiency of 83.11% have been achieved, with high tracking quality.
