Frequency Diversity Array Backscatter for Efficient IoT Multi-Device Communication

This paper addresses the challenge of enabling multiple internet of things devices (IoTDs) to share the same communication channel efficiently with low power consumption. We consider a novel monostatic backscatter communication system, where the base station (BS) uses a frequency diversity array to generate a specific remote beam that activates the devices. By activating reflective devices with a shaped beam and using a maximum likelihood receiver at the BS, we can decode signals to achieve multiple access. Then, we derive a closed-form expression for the aliasing probability of reflected signals, and obtain the numerical solution of the system outage probability through simulation. Numerical simulations verify the feasibility and advantages of the scheme, showing that our scheme enhances IoTD communication efficiency and reduces deployment costs.
