Millimeter Wave Range ’T’ Shaped Slot Antenna for 5G Applications

A millimeter wave range, and resonating at 28 GHz (FR-II) rectangular microstrip patch antenna with a ’T’ shaped slot for 5G application is presented in this paper. The proposed model antenna is designed on an FR-4 substrate. The investigation has created a slot on the patch to achieve better bandwidth, gain, and return loss feasible for 5G cellular applications. The model's overall dimensions are 6.2 mm X 7. 2 mm X 0.5 mm. Inset microstrip feeding is employed. The proposed antenna's return loss is improved from -17.74 dB to -30.05 dB, bandwidth is enhanced from 1.05 GHz to 1.14 GHz, and gain is improved from 7.3 dB to 7.5 dB. The proposed design is lightweight, small, and low fabrication cost. The simulation results were attained by using the HFSS Simulator. The VSWR value of the proposed slot antenna is 0.5 dB which confirms a better impedance matching. All antenna dimensions are optimized and simulated using the ANSYS HFSS simulation software. The results are satisfactory and the model is feasible for 5G applications.
