A novel method for calculating RMS values of high-frequency chain current in multiple active bridge converter

The multi-active bridge (MAB) converter enables flexible control of energy routing. It can integrate more distributed sources and loads by continuously expanding the number of ports, making it widely used in DC grids. However, as the number of ports continues to increase, the MAB converter becomes increasingly complex, making it challenging to accurately calculate the RMS values of the high-frequency chain current (HFCC). In this paper, an accurate expression for calculating the RMS values of the HFCC in the MAB converter is derived using the Thevenin theorem. The derived expression allows for accurate RMS value calculation of the HFCC and applies to numerous ports. Finally, an experimental validation of the proposed expression is performed using a MAB converter with four ports on a hardware in loop (HIL) experimental platform.
