Scenarios-Aware Power Saving Mechanism for Consumer Mobile Phone
Although the consumer electronics (CEs) capability in antennas and radio frequency (RF) have revolutionized, the CEs battery capability is far from satisfactory especially in consumer mobile phone. In this work, the scenarios-aware power saving mechanism is firstly proposed. The proposed mechanism relies on the relationship between the threshold of transmitting data sizes and the mobile phone working hardware components in different scenarios. By configuring different capabilities in different scenarios, more competitive power saving results can be achieved without compromising QoS. After applying our proposed mechanism in 5G commercial mobile phones, corresponding comparative experiments with and without our power saving mechanism are carried out both in the laboratory and the real networks. The results show that by using our scenarios-aware power saving mechanism, outstanding power saving benefits at around 2.63%~35.70% can be achieved. Our work offers the important basis of decision for operators and mobile phone manufacturers to design and configure power saving mechanism on mobile phone in various scenarios.
