Operational Scheduling Model of Electricity-Hydrogen-Chemical Systems Based on Sequential Production Simulation and Its Application

This study presents a high-fidelity operational scheduling model for electricity-hydrogen-chemical systems, developed using a sequential production simulation approach. The model integrates photovoltaic power generation, alkaline electrolyzers, hydrogen storage units, and ammonia synthesis equipment to optimize system operation while considering regional renewable energy variability and market electricity prices. By incorporating integer variables to represent the operational states of electrolyzers, the problem is formulated as a large-scale mixed-integer programming (MIP) and solved using the MOSEK algorithm. A case study based on an actual project in Southwest China is conducted, showcasing the model's capability to optimize grid electricity purchase, hydrogen storage, and green ammonia production. The results indicate a levelized cost of green ammonia production of approximately 4,500 CNY/ton and an annual revenue potential of 14.89 million CNY with a project return rate of 5.8%. Sensitivity analyses highlight that reducing electrolyzer investment can significantly enhance project profitability, emphasizing the importance of cost-efficient system design in advancing the green energy transition.
