Tidal Deformation of Asteroids Measurement With Earth-based Radar
The observation of tidal deformation of asteroids is of significant value to the field of astronomy, as it offers an indirect means of discerning the internal structure and material distribution of these celestial bodies. The measurement of tidal deformation of asteroids has been in its infancy due to the limitations of optical observation accuracy and radar imaging resolution. In this paper, we employ differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (D-InSAR) to model the tidal deformation of asteroids process and analyze the temporal and spatial baselines. We then introduce the asteroid ISAR imaging and D-InSAR methods. Subsequently, the tidal deformation of asteroids is modelled using numerical simulation software and simulation experiments are conducted. The line of sight to deformation was obtained for the radar images both before and after the deformation, using a D-InSAR process. The deformation error is on the order of sub-mm-level, and the simulation proves the feasibility of the method.
