Highly Efficient Ultra-Wideband Reflective Cross-Polarization Converter for Ku-, K-, and Ka-Band Satellite Communication Applications

An ultra-wideband metasurface based on a reflective cross-polarization converter is presented in this paper. The single layered proposed I-shaped cross-polarization converter achieved a wide bandwidth of 11.84 - 42.08 GHz by combining three adjacent operating frequencies: 16.88 GHz, 26.54 GHz, and 35.78 G Hz. The physical mechanism of the polarization converter is analyzed, and it exhibits a high polarization conversion ratio (PCR) of over 98 % throughout the entire band of operation. The metasurface demonstrates consistent performance across various incidence angles, maintaining stability up to 60°. The polarization converter offers enhanced performance characteristics with a simple resonant single-layered structure, covering the entire Ku, K, and Ka bands. This makes it highly suitable for satellite communication applications due to its broad coverage of communication frequencies.
